There are too many laptops in the market and when it comes to buying the right one, it is too confusing. The memory of the laptop plays a vital part and the operating systems too determine the type of laptops. The two operating systems namely windows XP and Vista take up different memory of the laptops. For Windows XP, 512 MB is required and so, a laptop with 1 GB memory is sufficient. But in the case of Vista, 1GB of memory would be taken up by the operating system and hence, it is essential for the laptop to have 2 GB of memory.
The RAM modules for laptops are considerably smaller than their desktop counterparts and are designed to fit in the smaller chassis and consume less energy. There are some situations when there is a need to buy more memory for the laptop, such as when the laptop performs sluggishly, in spite of having a fast processor. When the memory is upgraded, it resolves the issue.
